Thanks. I finally have the perfect answer to those who use this. Although, I get the original intent of the much used quote, it always left the important part out of the equation.
The first part of the quote is about people taking great pride in the filthy rags which are their "good works" and confusing them with the gospel. Sad.
That's an interesting take on that quote! Wow. I had always read it to mean that we should live in such a way that will prove to unbelievers the truth of the gospel.....but I see now that it can also be read to mean that we should not try to preach by works the gospel.
